Senator Abdulla Ibrahim of the ruling main party, the People's National Congress (PNF), has decided to leave the party and join the new party, the People's National Front (PNF).
Abdullah Ibrahim, in a letter to PNC President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, said he had been working in the PNC Senate because it was a party led by President Abdullah Yameen to uphold Maldivian nationalism and noble principles.
“However, today we are seeing the party being openly robbed from President Yameen and brought under the control of a certain person to achieve his own desires and undermine the pillars of nationalism,” the letter said.
Abdullah Ibrahim said that being in the PNC in this situation is against the spirit of President Yameen's policy of upholding Islamic principles, working against injustice and corruption and upholding the pillars of nationalism.
Former minister Mohammed Maleeh Jamal, who led the party's formation, confirmed his decision to join the PNF in a Facebook post.
While PNC Senator Abdullah Ibrahim has resigned from the party and joined the PNF, Former PNC Secretary General Shifagu Mufeed (Histo) has also resigned from the party and joined the PNF too.
Yameen resigned from the PPM and decided to form a new party on November 22 after disagreements with the PPM and PNC leadership. The party has proposed Yameen’s son Zain Abdullah Yameen as its founder. The party has been approved by the Election Commission and has started work to reach 3,000 members.
