President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has said that the meetings held with the Indian High Commission to withdraw Indian military presence from the Maldives have been successful.
In a video interview to Bloomberg Television's "Latitude" program on Thursday, President Dr. Muizzu said that Maldivians do not want another country's power over the Maldives and want the Maldives to remain an independent nation.
"We have held two-three meetings with the High Commission. These were very successful meetings," he said.
He said it would not be difficult for the country to withdraw 75 Indian soldiers and instead various technical personnel could be brought to the country.
"Our traditions are similar to those of India as well. We do not have any issues with India," he said.
The President further said that the Maldives will not get involved in the India-China conflict and that the Maldives will respect the independence of every country.
