The no-confidence motion of Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Eva Abdullah has been agendaed for Sunday's session.

The no-confidence motion against Deputy Speaker Eva Abdullah was signed by 50 MPs on 13th of this month. They include the signatures of 49 MDP members and a private member, Mohammed Nasheed Abdullah (Mosta).

The main reason for the resolution was that Eva was obstructing the impeachment proceedings of the Speaker of Parliament while sitting in the chair.

On November 16, the parliament accepted Eva's removal from the post of Deputy Speaker and sent a notice to the lawmakers in this regard. As per the rules of the Parliament, after the expiry of 14 days of the notice, the resolution has to be submitted to the session on the next working day. The notice expires tomorrow.

The General Committee of the Parliament has approved giving Eva 30 minutes to respond to the motion. It was also approved to give three minutes to each member.

The MDP had previously moved a no-confidence motion against Eva. However, the case was later withdrawn.

On the 13th of this month, the former Speaker of the Parliament, Mohammed Nasheed, resigned as the Speaker of the Parliament amid protests and unrest over the long withholding of the motion to remove him from the agenda.
