Civil Service Commission (CSC) has said First Lady Sajida Mohamed will work contractually in the civil service until the end of this term.
First Lady Sajida is senior scientific officer at Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA).
The First Lady wrote to the CSC that she would like to serve in the civil service even while performing her duties as the First Lady.
CSC President Mohamed Nasih told 'One' this evening that First Lady Sajida had requested that her job responsibilities be reduced so that she could continue in service.
"She is currently on an annual leave. Arrangements will be made for a separate contract once she is back from leave. It won't be a permanent job, but she will contribute," Nasih said.
Nasih did not say whether the First Lady would remain on no-pay leave or pay a salary even if she served.
Nasih added that First Lady Sajida wanted to serve at least 40 hours a month and there was no legal hurdle in it.
According to the President and Vice President's Salary and Allowances Act, the First Lady is required to be paid an allowance by the state, which is one-third of the president's salary.
