The Parliament's Petitions Committee has approved a petition with 1,000 signatures seeking a ban on Israelis from entering the country.

The petition was filed by an organisation called the Right Movement, which was submitted to parliament on Monday with the signatures of 1,000 of the many signatories.

More than 10,000 signatures have been received in Male' city alone and signature activities are underway across the country. The Right Movement has said that the process of signing the petition will continue till 15 December.

The Right Movement said it was filing the petition seeking a ban on Israelis from entering the country, to show their opposition to Israel's inhuman treatment and atrocities against Palestinians.

The petition has sought ban on Israeli passports, non-import of goods related to the country, and to ensure that its citizens do not enter the country under any circumstances.

While the Right Movement filed the petition, the house also debated a resolution moved by Mp Saud Hussein against Israel condemning the "inhuman atrocities" meted out to the Palestinian people, calling for an end to Israel's occupation of Palestinian lands.

More than 13,000 people, mostly children and women, have been killed in Israeli strikes in Gaza.

During a meeting of the Parliament's Petitions Committee on Tuesday, The Democrats MP Hassan Latheef proposed that the petition be decided by the committee. The petition was passed by the committee with the consent of all the members present at the committee meeting.
