President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has said that Maldives does not need military assistance from any particular country to ensure the safety and security of the country.

The president-elect made the remarks while responding to a reporter's question in an interview with Channel News Asia yesterday when asked if Maldives does not need help from a particular country to ensure the safety and security of the country.

Dr. Muizzu said that Maldives does not need military assistance but will welcome assistance from all countries to ensure things are on the right track for Maldives.

"We need the assistance from all countries to ensure the security of our armed forces, our economy, the Indian coast and the security of the country. We believe that this is the way forward," Dr. Muizzu said.

Dr. Muizzu added that the security of Maldives and Indian coast is significant for the security of India and other countries in the region.

When asked by the reporter about India's relations, Dr. Muizzu reiterated that "the long-standing friendly relations between India and the Maldives will always remain and will continue to be a priority in the future."

"The decision of the people of the country is that there should be no foreign troops in the country. I don't know the number of soldiers who are already there in the country. Even the interim efforts did not prove it. The relations between India and Maldives does not conflate with the military presence," Dr. Muizzu said.
