Foreign delegations have arrived in the Maldives to attend the oath ceremony of President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and Vice President-elect Hussain Mohamed.

Dr. Muizzu and Hussain's oath ceremony will be held at 1645hrs on Friday at The Republic Square. Parliament has said that representatives or heads appointed by a total of 46 countries will attend the ceremony, of which the heads of India and Seychelles have already arrived.

"There are ministers from about 12 countries. Those who come as special representatives of the presidents, prime ministers and monarchs of various countries," Parliament's Media Director Hassan Ziayu told One on Thursday.

Indian Earth Science Minister Kiren Rijiju arrived in the Maldives on Thursday to attend the ceremony on behalf of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Chinese President Xi Jinping's Special Representative and State Councillor Shen Yiqin also arrived yesterday.

Interim spokesman Firzul Abdullah Khalil had earlier said that president-elect Muizzu's oath ceremony would be open to 1,000 people.

While parliament is preparing for the ceremony, Ziyau had earlier told One that invitations to attend the ceremony would be sent to around 3,500 people. Dr. Muizzu's oath ceremony was assigned to the army welfare company, SIWEC, for MVR 22.9 million.
