The first 100-day pledge of the president-elect to make it possible for the Sovereign Development Fund (SDF) to be re-deposited in dollars has been announced.

A special event was held at Dharubaaruge last night to announce the 100-day pledge of the Dr. Muizzu government, "Haftha 14". Dr. Muizzu set a target of fulfilling 172 promises in the first 14 weeks of his presidency, of which the SDF would be able to receive dollars again as a promise to be fulfilled in 14 weeks.

During a meeting held at Moonima Building on September 24 to release his economic manifesto as part of the campaign for the second round of presidential elections, Dr. Muizzu said he would start depositing dollars again into the SDF, which was formed by former president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom during the party's first term. Dr. Muizzu had said that his government would provide legal protection to the SDF Fund.

"Once again, we will deposit it in the SDF in dollars. We will make a law in relation to the dollars received by the airport and the tourism sector, protect the SDF with legal authority and create more ways to get dollars for it, and make the SDF a fund that collects huge amounts of revenue month-on-month," Dr. Muizzu said in a statement.

Dr. Muizzu said that at the end of Yameen's government, there were dollars in the Sovereign Fund, but the current government has taken the dollars for various purposes and started depositing Maldivian Rufiyaa in the fund.
