Parliament's Foreign Relations Committee has approved a recommendation to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to ban Israelis from entering the Maldives in protest against Zionist Israel's attacks on the oppressed people of Gaza.

The decision was passed unanimously by all the members present at the meeting of the committee.

The committee took up the matter following a motion submitted to the Parliament by Machangolhi Dhekunu MP Ahmed Haitham, seeking to prevent Israelis from entering the Maldives.

In his letter, Haitham said Israel has been committing inhuman acts against Palestinian Muslims since 1948, which have resulted in the deaths of thousands of Palestinian children and civilians, some turning into refugees for life, and that Israel's inhuman treatment of Palestinians is anti-human.

Haitham strongly condemned the inhuman acts committed by Israel stating that it is a matter of great concern and fear that this a Muslim country such as Maldives is allowing Israelis to vacation in Maldives. He appealed to all government institutes to act on banning Israeli passports.

Henveiru Dhekunu MP Hussain Shaheem, who chaired the committee, said that article 115 of the Constitution empowers the President to establish and maintain relations with foreign countries and NGOs in the interest of establishing foreign relations and conducting foreign policy.

According to the members, what the committee can do to ban Israelis from coming to the Maldives and ban the country's passports is to advise the president to do so.

Therefore, the committee approved the recommendation to the President to do so and approved to send a letter.
