Deputy Speaker of the Parliament Eva Abdulla has decided that neither the second session nor the case can proceed as MDP's motion to remove Nasheed from the post of Speaker of the Parliament was dismissed from the parliament session held this morning.

Nasheed's no-confidence motion was scheduled for today following the Supreme Court's verdict on Thursday.

The first session of the Parliament today was presided over by MP Hassan Afeef of Villufushi constituency. Before the motion could be debated on, Democrats' PG leader Ali Azim questioned the legitimacy of the motion.

Hasan Afeef, who presided over the first sitting of the parliament held this morning, concluded that the motion, submitted with signatures of 49 lawmakers, did not meet the requirements.

As such, Afif decided not to proceed with the session today and rejected the resolution on the grounds that the motion was rejected in violation of the law and the rules of the parliament. The parliament rescheduled the session at 1130hrs, and the second session was chaired by Deputy Speaker Eva Abdulla.

Speaking at the start of the session, Eva said that the motion to remove Nasheed was dismissed from the chair in this morning's sitting, so she did not think the matter could be taken up further today.

"In view of the Supreme Court's judgment and in view of the parliamentary rules, I do not think that this resolution can be taken up in parliament again in this manner," Eva said, concluding the session.

Majority Leader of the Parliament Mohamed Aslam told 'One' today that this resolution was scheduled at the Parliament after completing all administrative procedures and complying with the rules.

Aslam said that the speaker could not dismiss the matter when the parliament office had scheduled the motion as it was a violation of the rules of the parliament and that the speaker did not have that power. Afeef's decision was in violation of the rules of the parliament and therefore, an ethical case has been filed regarding Afeef.

The Committee meeting on Afeef convened at noon, and is ongoing.
