The exact number of Indian troops in the Maldives is still unknown, the head of the interim committees and PNC Chairman Abdul Raheem Abdullah (Adhurey) said today.

The PPM/PNC coalition leader revealed to reporters before departing to Addu City today that even the government has admitted that Indian troops are present in the Maldives.

"Indian troops are in Maldives. The government has agreed to that. However, we have not yet ascertained the exact number," Abdul Rahman said.

Abdul Raheem said the Indian troops are present in Addu City, Haa Dhaalu Hanimadhoo, and Laamu Kaddhoo.

The government had previously stated that no Indian troops are present in a military capacity in the country. As such, the government had stated that any troops in the country are humanitarian workers tasked with activities such as operating the helicopter.

The withdrawal of Indian troops from the Maldives is one of the key pledges of President-elect Mohammed Muizzu.

Muizzu also made the remarks during his meeting with the Indian Ambassador after being elected to power.
