Former President Abdulla Yameen has been threatened with canceling his pledge agreement with the Maldives Corrections Services.
Yameen, who was transferred to house arrest while serving an 11-year jail sentence in connection with the MMPRC corruption case, has been visiting the PPM office where he has been meeting and speaking with his supporters. The last meeting was broadcast live on TV.
Yameen's visits come after Corrections had agreed to let him go outside for medical purposes.
The Corrections Department today sent a message to the media regarding the criticism that Yameen has participated in political activities but has not taken any action.
As such, they noted that a warning has been sent to the former President for violating the terms of the agreement, adding that if continued the agreement will be canceled.
Prisoners are constitutionally prohibited from engaging in political activities even if they are members of a political party.
