Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation has announced that people will be able to access some of the flats being constructed in Hulhumale' by the end of this year under the government's 'Gedhoruveriya' scheme.
As part of the government's 'Gedhoruveriya' project, 4,000 flats are being constructed in Hulhumale' Phase II. Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation has contracted the work to India's JMC and NBCC. Each company has been awarded the work of 2,000 flats.
The Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation had earlier said that work on 13 towers would be completed under the project and people would be able to live there by next month, which is 1,624 flats.
However, Mohammad Affan, assistant marketing and PR manager of the corporation, told One today that the construction work of six towers of these housing units has been completed and finishing work is currently underway in four of them.
"Our aim is to make it possible for people to live in the four towers where finishing work is done by the end of this year. That's 450 units," Affan said.
Under the Gedhoruveriya scheme, 32 towers of 18 storeys will be constructed for allotment of flats, each tower will have three lifts and eight residential units, while the lower floor will have space for parking with shops. Parking will also be constructed in the vicinity of the building.
A total of 20,697 applicants applied for flats under the first phase of the housing scheme, including 14,489 for a three-room apartment and 6,208 for a two-bedroom apartment. Only 13,000 of the applicants met the eligibility criteria.
The state government has decided to allot flats to all eligible applicants under the 'gedhoruveriya' scheme.
