Women in Tech, in collaboration with the National Democratic Institute (NDI), are organising a hackathon to create awareness about media literacy and find solutions to curb the spread of misinformation about technology.

Women in Tech said the hackathon aims to address environmental issues in the country and identify new and innovative ideas.

The hackathon, supported by USAID, will be held on October 27 and 28 at Hulhumale' waters age. The hackathon, titled 'Debancathon', will be a completely new, 24-hour hackathon in the country, women in tech said in a statement.

The winning team will receive a cash prize of USD 8,000 to complete the prototype, Women in Tech said in a statement.

A two-hour interactive pre-hackathon workshop for developers, innovators and media personnel will be held on Saturday ahead of the hackathon.

Women in Tech said it hopes to bring together innovators, problem solvers and advocates of true information and identify and develop new, innovative approaches to curb the spread of misinformation.

According to Women in Tech, the hackathon is now open to registration as three or five-member teams, and five of the registered teams will be selected to compete in the hackathon, while those interested in participating in the pre-hackathon will be able to participate only after completing the online form.
