Former STO Managing Director Ahmed Amr has said that he doubts whether MDP will win a single seat in next year's parliamentary elections.

Speaking at a rally held by The Democrats, Amr said MDP was the first political party formed in Maldives, and that the current leadership had the party with 90,000 members, 65 seats in parliament, judiciary and 58 percent of the people's vote.

However, the largest party, MDP, has now fallen to 40,000 members and 38 percent vote of the population.

Amr said that if he were the chairman of MDP, he would propose to form an independent commission to find out the reasons for the defeat in the presidential election.

The committee will hold those responsible in its report accountable and remove those who should be removed, he said.

Amr said MDP does not have enough leadership to succeed in things. Therefore, it is doubtful that the MDP will win a single seat in the upcoming parliament, he said.

However, if MDP wants to win a seat in parliament, there are many things to do, the most important of which is to speak on the bill proposed by the Democrats to reform the Parliament, he said.

The Democrats' bill to reform the majilis would change the current composition of the majilis to 76 members. The bill was introduced by Ilyas Labib.
