President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has said the Indian Ambassador has reiterated his cooperation with the Maldivian people in dealing with the issue of Indian military presence in Maldives.

Dr. Muizzu made the remarks in an exclusive interview with One Media today.

The President-elect said that he was pleased to meet them so early in the interim transition process after being elected president. Dr. Muizzu noted that the meeting was also scheduled within two to three hours of requesting for the meeting.

The President-elect stated that the discussions at the meeting were very well, and it was a hopeful meeting. Dr. Muizzu added that the elections clearly showed that the issue of Indian soldiers in this country, the need for it to be resolved, and that people have mixed feelings about the issue.

"The Ambassador reiterated he will fully cooperate in solving this issue as I have proposed, to ensure the sovereignty and independence of Maldives are maintained," Dr. Muizzu stated.

He added that he believes discussions can lead to positive results and that he has also spoken on the issue of the loans taken from India, which have yielded in some promising responses.

"So, I believe that the major issues that need to be addressed in the Maldives can be resolved very well by talking to the Government of India," Dr. Muizzu said.
