President-elect Dr. Muizzu has stated that he will try to reduce the number of ministries while forming his cabinet, though priority will be given to ensuring speedy delivery of manifesto pledges.

Dr. Muizzu said this in an exclusive interview with One Media today.

The President-elect said that many of the works that have been started are still unfinished and if the services are being provided, the people will not complain about the number of ministries.

"I went to the atolls this time for the campaign and I saw that nothing has happened, if something had started then it's on hold. So it's clear that there are too many ministries. Because there is nothing substantial to show for the number of ministries. If all 18 existing ministries had functioned properly, perhaps the result could have been different. Because then, everyone would have said that they do not have a reason to vote for me because their needs are fully met," he said.

He said he would look at the trust of the people and the manifesto he had conveyed to the people in determining the number of ministries. He said 18 is not a bad number.

"Eighteen could be a good number. It could be less. It could be a little more. I would rather do less than that. The goal is to focus on the things in my manifesto and create a government of the size that can do it quickly," he explained.

The President-elect further said that his government will not give positions to people in the name of giving them jobs.
