Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed has revealed that Vice-President-elect Hussain Mohammed Lateef, (Sembe) contested the last presidential election as a member of the People's National Congress (PNC).
President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu is also from PNC.
Sembe was previously a member of the main opposition party PPM. The PPM and PNC are working together in a coalition.
The Vice-President-elect, who changed his party and joined the People's National Congress (PNC), participated in the presidential election after submitting documents to the Parliament.
The Election Commission has also submitted the documents to the parliament and he is now included in the register of political parties in parliament as a member of the PNC, he said.
There has been a change in the way political parties include MPs. Therefore, the parliament now consists of 56 MDP members, 13 members of The Democrats, four members each of PPM and PNC, three members of MNP, two members each of MDA and JP and three members who do not belong to any particular party.
President-elect Dr. Mohammed Muizzu also contested the presidential election, after being a member of the PPM, he switched to the PNC and won the PNC ticket.
