Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has filed a complaint with the police against a group of people for entering the port of Uthuru Thilafalhu without permission and videotaping part of the port.
Speaking during a campaign rally held on Saturday night, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih stated that under the second phase of the Binveriyaa and Gedhoruveriyaa Scheme, land plots and flats will be allotted from the Uthuru Thilafalhu.
Two journalists from Dhiyares, including two other public members had gone to Uthuru Thilafalhu in a private hire yesterday. However, a MNDF personnel there said that photographs and videos could not be taken and that they were not authorized to enter the island.
MNDF later issued a press release yesterday stating that their permission is required to enter any of their premises. The army laws and regulations require the army to prevent unauthorized entry into these premises, they added. It further added that an MNDF personnel had stopped the journalists from entering the island.
MNDF further asserted that this was an extremely irresponsible act and that it would be taken seriously. The statement further noted that a case will be submitted to the relevant authorities to take the necessary action in the case.
They further revealed today that a case has been submitted with the Police against the four individuals for entering the 'Sifavaru' port located in Uthuru Thilafalhu without permission, taking photographs and videos of the area and publicizing them as well as disobeying the orders of a Seargent General First Class at the premises.
MNDF has said that in all countries of the world, unauthorized entry into a military base is a serious problem. Some countries also use weapons against people trying to enter military bases without permission.
