The opposition PPM/PNC has held talks with the Maldives Reform Movement (MRM) and former Dhiggaru MP Faris Maumoon's team to form a coalition in the second round.

PPM today said it had discussed with the team of MRM and Faris about working together in the second round of the presidential election.

However, they did not reveal any further details about the meeting.

In a tweet, Faris said his team had met PPM/PNC to discuss social, political, and economic reform policies. The policies are essential to maintain good democracy, justice, and unity, he said.

In an earlier tweet, Faris said he had received an invitation from President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to discuss forming a coalition.

The first round of the election went to the PNC presidential candidate, Mohammed Muiz who got 101,494 votes. That's 45.99 percent. President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih came in second with 85,126 votes. That's 39.02 percent of the vote. Faris contested the election as an independent candidate and received 2,993 votes. That's one percent.

The PPM/PNC has also met with JP leader, Qasim Ibrahim to discuss forming a coalition in the second round. However, no decision has been taken on forming a coalition. President Solih also visited Sun Island Resort today to meet Qasim.

PPM/PNC has so far formed a coalition only with MNP. MDA and Adalat Party have formed a coalition with MDP.
