President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih will meet with JP Leader Qasim Ibrahim today to discuss forming a coalition for the second round of the presidential election to be held on the 30th of this month.
Former MP Ahmed Nihan Hassan Manik, who is Qasim's special advisor, told One Online today that the meeting will be held at Sun Island. The meeting will be held early today, he said.
"The President has expressed interest in meeting Qasim after he had met with the PNC. So they have decided to meet him today, but I don't know when," he said.
President Solih will arrive at Sun Island at 1:00 pm today.
While Qasim is expected to meet President Solih today, he also met with PPM/PNC Presidential Candidate Mohamed Muizzu's running mate and senior officials of the party at Sun Island last night.
The President has met with Qasim twice before to invite him to form a coalition for the presidential election. However, Qasim decided to contest the election separately. After the decision, Qasim and President Solih held a meeting at the Presidential Office.
During the presidential election campaign, Qasim criticized President Solih and the government. President Solih should not be elected for a second term, he said.
In the first round of the election, President Solih received 38.2 percent of the vote, or 86,164 votes. Qasim received 2.4 percent. That’s 5,450 votes.
