Speaker Mohamed Nasheed has stated that he will not be consulting with President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on forming a coalition in the run-off of the Presidential Election.
Nasheed was responding to MP Abdullah Jabir's remarks in the Parliament today about the MDP and The Democrats working together in the second round of the presidential election.
Noting that the MDP presidential candidate, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, came second in the election, Jabir said it was the result of the MDP split and no other problem had arisen.
Therefore, once the two sides start working together, we will move forward, he said.
At that point, the Speaker interrupted Jabir and said, "I have to point out, that is not going to happen again."
Jabir said he regretted the Speaker's interference in his speech. The parliament should be conducted in accordance with the rules, he said.
However, Jabir also asked the Speaker of Parliament and the President to take necessary steps to prevent injustice.
"The issue within the MDP has broken out and that part is very clear, so, I would like to ask the Democrats to take the right step without taking a very thoughtful step,” he said.
