President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated that more parties will form a coalition with MDP in the second round of the presidential election scheduled for the 30th of this month.
In a phone interview with Raajje TV, President Solih said talks with some of the candidates who lost the first round of elections had started yesterday.
"Discussions have been held with some parties on Tuesday to form a coalition. There are some people who have given the green signal to move forward with MDP," he said.
The President said he has not yet decided to form a coalition with any other party. However, two or three parties have given the green signal to form a coalition, he said.
"It is not yet officially announced. However, the next task will be to announce it officially. Hopefully, two or three people will join us. If we do that, we will make progress," he said.
The PNC presidential candidate, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, won the first round by a large majority. Muizzu received 101,394 votes, while the President received 85,698 votes. Muizzu, defeated President Solih by a margin of 15,696 votes.
