Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has donated engines to training institutes in the Maldives as part of its social responsibility.
At a ceremony held at MTCC Confirmed Showroom on Wednesday, 11 engine training institutes of Yanmar '60U4Y' were handed over to the heads of the institutes by MTCC CEO Adam Azim. The total cost of these locomotives, donated in collaboration with The Myanmar company, is MVR 4 million.
The institutes that MTCC donated these engines to were Faculty of Engineering at The National University of Maldives, Maldives Polytechnic, Technical and Vocational Education Centre (TVEC), Villa College, Maldives Institute of Technology, Y Island Institute of Tertiary Education and MNDF.
The aim of donating engines to the training institutes is to train young mechanics in the marine sector in the country and expand the sector, especially to train a large number of young people from across the country who are familiar with the problems of repairing the Yanmar engine.
Yanmar engines were first installed in boats in the Maldives in 1973. Maldives Engine Service Center, which was operated by the government at the time, was brought under MTCC and started operating as MTCC sales center. All the construction of the engine of the boats which were carried out under the supervision of the then government was transferred to MTCC.
