Maldives Police Service has announced that body-worn cameras will be used in Saturday's presidential election.
Deputy Commander Chief Superintendent Ahmed Muslim, who is in charge of the security arrangements for the election, said that they plan to carry out the security duties assigned to the police in the run-up to the elections in the best possible manner.
As part of the election process, the police are currently carrying ballot papers and materials for polling booths to the islands under the supervision of the Election Commission and they will take care of its security, he said.
Security arrangements are also being made for the candidates contesting the elections, Muslim said, adding that the police personnel have been equipped with necessary equipment and equipment to ensure the security of the candidates.
The decision to use body-worn cameras in elections was taken as part of these arrangements, he said.
With body worn cameras, police personnel will be deployed inside the polling station and polling systems and will be used as per the laws and regulations, Muslim said.
