The Election Commission (EC) on Saturday said it will not accept digital ID cards to vote in the general elections.

Briefing the media about the election process, EC Vice President Ismail Habib said that some people are asking if digital ID cards can be used to cast their votes, but even if printed, they will not accept it for voting.

"It is stated in the general law on elections that any of the four documents — ID cards, passports, passport cards, driving licences — should be brought for voting. Only the original of an unexpired document will be accepted," Habib said.

Therefore, Habib said that people should be careful to ensure that things like ID cards and passports have not expired and to renew the documents before voting.

A total of 2,82,395 voters are eligible to cast their votes in saturday's election, of which 1,38,196 are women and 1,44,199 are male.
