The Ministry of Planning has said that the permanent list of beneficiaries under the Binveriyaa Scheme will be released this evening, with draws to be held on Tuesday to decide the locations where the land will be allotted.

Addressing a press conference at the President's Office this evening, Minister of State for Planning Akram Kamaluddin said that when the provisional list of plots was first announced, there were only 10,314 applicants who were eligible for the plot.

"When we opened up the opportunity for joint applicants, we were able to accommodate more people. This time, 18,955 beneficiaries will be given plots of land, while 684 eligible applicants are on a waitlist," Akram said.

Akram said a permanent registry would be given after the land plots are marked, and hence it was unlikely that it would change even if the government changed.

By the end of the term, 18,955 applicants who are eligible will be allotted plots and registries will be handed over. Akram, however, did not specify how much land could be allotted before the presidential election.

Akram further said that services will be set up as per the land use plan before construction will begin in these land plots.

Mohammad Arif, director at the Planning Ministry, said that the draws of the land plots will be carried out at the National Stadium.

Arif said that the draw paper will have the lot number and the area where the land is located, and efforts will also be made to segregate the plots allotted from Hulhumale' on the day of the draw.

In addition to 1,351 plots in Hulhumale', the government has decided to allot 2,218 plots in Gulhifalhu and at least 5,432 plots from the land reclaimed in Giraavaru Falhu.
