Jumhooree Party (JP) left the coalition with the government over lack of jobs provided despite coalition agreement, JP leader and Maamigili constituency MP Qasim Ibrahim has revealed.

Speaking at 'Qasim ge Thasavvaru' programme as part of his elections campaign, Qasim stated that JP worked tirelessly to bring President Solih to power.

"During President Yameen's tenure, all of us opposition leaders from MDP, Adaalat and President Maumoon worked together in Kunooz. All the leaders were imprisoned. President Maumoon was imprisoned, Imran was imprisoned, President Nasheed was imprisoned I was the one managing managing everything and communicating with President Solih,” he said.

Qasim said the coalition agreement was for JP to get 25 percent of jobs, MRM to get 20 per cent, Adaalat to get 15 percent and the remaining to be represented by MDP. He added that by right Deputy Speaker of Parliament should have been a representative from JP.

"We agreed to give 25 percent to JP, 20 percent to President Maumoon and 15 percent to Adaalat and the rest to the MDP. However, we got about eight percent. MDP complained about lack of jobs for MDP representatives; even President Nasheed spoke about it,” he said.

Qasim added that it created a lot of issues for the coalition partners when the government failed to uphold their end of the bargain. He stated that JP tolerated the unfair treatment for what the party hoped was the betterment of nation.

"I am not working towards gaining great positions. I have always used my position to bring about reform; and I will continue to work towards it from whichever position allows me to," Qasim stated.
