Foundation has been laid for the Islamic Centre to be built in Addu City.
The foundation was laid by Vice President Faisal Naseem, Islamic Minister Dr. Ahmed Zahir and Addu City Mayor Ali Nizar at a ceremony held in Addu City.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Vice President said the government is already working on four mosques in Addu City and is also working to increase religious awareness among school children and the general public.
He added that the Islamic Ministry is planning and implementing religious programs. Vice President said that the projects started by the government in Addu City will completely change the state.
Minister Dr. Zahir said the government will not stop the construction of mosques and various projects only after laying the foundation stone. The Islamic Center is being built to house a mosque as well as various religious programs.
Such buildings are one of the most important ways to express the Islamic slogan, he said.
The current administration has completed 12 mosques so far while 19 mosques are under construction. Each mosque will be completed within one year, Minister Dr. Zahir said.
Addu City Mayor Nizar thanked the people of Addu City for promoting religious slogans and building such buildings in different parts of the country.
The Islamic Center in Addu City will accommodate 1,500 people. The building will also have a multipurpose hall, four classrooms, two seminar rooms, an office for administrative work and an Islamic library.
The Ministry of Islamic Affairs awarded the project to Fedo Pvt. The project was awarded to the company for MVR 55,528,189.74 (55.5 million) with a completion date of 540 days. The project was awarded to the company on March 24 this year.
