Japan has won Gold medals in both the Men's and Women's Rankings of the Asian Surfing Championship which concluded in Kaafu Atoll Tulusdhoo today.
The Maldives won Silver after finishing second in the Men's Ranking of the championship.
The 7th international competition to be held in the Maldives this year, the Asian Surfing Championship 2023 successfully concluded in Tulusdhoo today. Maldives Olympic Committee President Mohamed Abdul Sattar (Champi), Police Commissioner Mohamed Hameed, MMPRC Managing Director Thoyyib Mohamed, and Health Minister Mohamed Naseem were present at the closing ceremony.
The President and Vice-President of the Asian Surfing Federation were also present at today's event. The final events of the men's and women's open divisions of the Asian Surfing Championships, which were competed by a total of 18 countries, concluded yesterday, and the last heats of the Under 18 Junior women's and men's final heats were held today.
Four Japanese athletes competed in today's junior final heats, while Ikko Watanabe won the gold medal, Riki Sato bagged the second spot. Taro Takai won the bronze medal, while Kaisei Adachi finished fourth. One of them, Watanabe, also finished fourth in the men's open division yesterday. Ricki Sato is also a silver medalist at the Men's Open.
Maldives veteran surfer Hussain Areef (Ibu) won the bronze medal in the final heats of the men's open division held yesterday. The results of those events were also declared today, with Dhany Widianto of Indonesia winning the men's title.
Japan's Sumomo Sato claimed the junior women's title by finishing first in the junior women's final heats. China's Siqi Yang bagged the second spot, followed by Japan's Mirai Ikeda. Kanon Takahashi finished fourth. Among them, Japan's Sumomo is also the champion of the women's open yesterday. Mirai Ikeda, a junior bronze medallist, bagged the silver medal in the event. In the women's open, Dhea Natasya finished third. In the women's open event, Isabel Faye Higgs finished fourth.
Japan won the Aloha Cup, the team event of this year's Surfing Championship. China bagged the second spot in the event, followed by Lebanon. Ibu, Ahmed Agil (Ammadey), Hoodh Ahmed, and Rahil Naseem (Aaya) are the team that won the bronze medal for the Maldives.
The country's male athletes won the silver medal in the rankings at this year's competition, while Japan bagged the top spot in the men's rankings. India came third.Japan finished at the top of the women's ranking, while China finished second. Thailand came third.
