President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said that the Gulhi Land Reclamation Project will begin in September.

Speaking at a meeting held at Kaafu Gulhi, the first destination of the President's visit to three islands of Kaafu Atoll as part of his campaign, the President said that even though Gulhi was close to Male', it was abandoned by previous governments due to the low population.

The President said that when this government came to power, the people of Gulhi were deprived of many basic issues. He said there was no water and sanitation system in the island either, but highlighted that a proper clean drinking water system has now been established on the island.

The island, which is twenty minutes from Male', is an island where local tourism is expanding. The main concern of the islanders is the scarcity of land, which is now almost full and crowded.

Referring to this, the President said the land reclamation project in Gulhi has been handed over to MTCC.

The planning ministry handed over the 10.15-hectare land reclamation project in Gulhi to MTCC to be completed within 450 days on March 20. The project is estimated to cost MVR 83 million.

The bed preparation work for the project has already begun.

Announcing what he would do if elected for a second term, the President announced that the port of Gulhi would be developed in the second term and a laboratory would be set up at the island's health centre.
