Maldives Parliament has tabled a no-confidence motion against Deputy Speaker Eva Abdulla for tomorrow.

Eva's no-confidence motion is the only item on the agenda for the Parliament session tomorrow. The motion has been scheduled after long disagreements between ruling MDP members who submitted it and opposition members, who are in support of Eva.

Parliament’s Secretary General Fathimath Niusha previously stated that the motion had not been put on the agenda before as the General Purpose Committee was at a standstill due to which time lengths on the debate for the motion were not set.

Niusha had highlighted that the Committee had been at a standstill after several members left MDP, which prompted a change to how committees were formed based on the composition of the Parliament. However, the parties have not been able to come to an agreement regarding the required changes.

However, in a letter sent to all parliamentarians, Niusha wrote that though the debate time for the motion hasn’t been set as per Article 205 (g) of the Parliament’s regulations, with reference to Article 206, the motion must be set in the agenda for the next sitting held on a working day, under Article 205 (c).

A 14-day notice was sent to Eva regarding the motion expired yesterday.

MDP members had protested and disrupted the parliament session today, after learning that the motion was not scheduled for the session.
