President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Saturday inaugurated the Land Reclamation Project in Addu City.
The President is currently on a three-day official visit to Addu City. He participated in the inauguration ceremony of the Land Reclamation Project on Saturday Evening held in Maradhoo.
Dutch company Van Oord was contracted for the project in April 2022. Under the agreement, 194.3 hectares of land is to be reclaimed within 18 months, including shore protection works.
The project is being executed through a USD 800 million line of credit from the EXIM Bank of India at a total cost of USD 1.3 billion.
The scope of the project includes 90 hectares of land to be reclaimed from Hithadhoo, Shore protection on 11 kilometers of the reclaimed area, 23.3 hectares of land to be reclaimed from Hulhumeedhoo with an additional five hectares of two lands will be reclaimed from the lagoon, 23.3 hectares of land from Hulhumedhoo and two islands of five hectares to be reclaimed for tourism purposes, 76 hectares of land from Maradhoo/Maradhoofeydhoo, along with three islands of 8.3 hectares and two islands measuring 3.3 hectares, will be reclaimed from the lagoon for tourism purposes.
