Male' City Council has decided to charge expatriates an entrance fee to enter the parks in Male' City.

The decision was made on Wednesday at the 104th General Meeting of the Council, to charge expatriates to enter Sultan Park and Lonuziyaaraiy Park.

City Council's decision will come into effect starting 15 June 2023. Expatriates living in Maldives and tourists will pay different entrance fees, City Council said.

Male' City Mayor Dr. Mohamed Muiz stated this is common practice in other countries as well.

Expatriates were charged an entrance fee during former president Yameen's tenure but the current administration dissolved the practice.
