State Electric Company (STELCO) has signed agreement with Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) to include waste management charges in the electricity bill.
The agreement is part of Environment Ministry's initiative to ensure that WAMCO bills are paid by residents in Male' City.
Starting June, STELCO bills will include the charges from WAMCO. The agreement on this was signed on Sunday at a ceremony held at STELCO by Managing Director Ahmed Shareef and WAMCO's Managing Director Yoosuf Siraj.
Speaking at the ceremony, Shareef said that the bills can be paid together to STELCO and will provide convenience to the residents. He added that there might be slight technical issues at the beginning but STELCO and WAMCO would sort out any and all issues once highlighted to the companies.
A fixed charge of MVR 150 will be added to STELCO bills for WAMCO services. Active electric metres are considered those that have used more than 34 units in a month. If a metre uses more than 34 units a month, it should be informed to STELCO and WAMCO, the companies said, so that such metres can be omitted from the bills.
WAMCO stated that commercial metres will only be charged if they are registered with WAMCO and fees will be billed together with STELCO charges.
