The spokesperson at the President's Office, Miuvan Mohamed on Wednesday denied allegations that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih had met former Tourism Minister, Ali Waheed, during his recent trip to the United Kingdom.

Some local media reports have claimed that during the trip, the President had met with Ali Waheed where the President had assured him that the government will not be taking any action regarding the charges that have been pressed on him.

Miuvan denied all the rumors on Wednesday.

The state has pressed several charges on Ali Waheed for sexually harassing a number of employees during his time as the Tourism Minister.

The charges raised against Ali Waheed include inflicting sexual injury under Article 16 of the Sexual Offences Act, attempted rape under Article 15 of the same act, indecent exposure under Section 132 of the Penal Code, sexual assault under Article 18 of the Sexual Offences Act, attempt to cause sexual assault under Article 19 of the Sexual Offences Act, and two counts of unlawful sexual conduct under section 412 and 81 of the Penal Code.

He had denied all the charges and plead not guilty.

He faces a 21 year jail term if all the charges are proven, however in October 22nd the Criminal Court had sent back the charges to the Prosecutor General's Office after failing to produce him to the court even after issuing an INTERPOL Red Notice.

However, the PG office noted back then that the charges can be resubmitted to the court.

The recent trip to the UK by President Solih was to participate in the coronation of King Charles III, where he also participated in the Commonwealth Leader's Event.
