Statistics published by the Ministry of Finance and Treasury have revealed that MVR 4 billion has been spent on the Public Service Investment Program (PSIP) within the four months of the year so far.
As per the budget for the year, MVR 8.5 billion had been allocated for PSIP projects. According to the latest fiscal statistics, the state has already spent almost half the program's annual budget. The expenditure stood at MVR 2.1 billion for the same period last year.
Transport services were the sector with the highest expenditure among all PSIP sectors. A total of MVR 1.2 billion has been spent on different projects in the sector, which includes MVR 413.3 million on various harbor development projects, MVR 443.4 million spent on various airport development projects, and MVR 380.3 million spent on the bridge project.
Educational projects received MVR 179.9 million, Environment protection projects received MVR 167.3 million, Water and Sewerage projects received MVR 642.6 million, Health sector projects received MVR 45.8 million, and National Security and Public Order projects received MVR 74.9 million from the annual PSIP budget.
In addition to this, MVR 63.5 million was spent on office buildings and councils, MVR 335 million was spent on Housing projects, MVR 1 billion on land reclamation and road development, MVR 70.5 million on various fisheries and agricultural projects. and MVR 141.1 million was spent on social and religious projects.
The fiscal report highlighted that MVR 15.9 billion had been spent by the state by the first week of May, with a state revenue of MVR 11.6 billion by then.
