The Ministry of Finance and Treasury has revealed that the Green Tax revenue for the first quarter stood at MVR 298 million.

According to the Green Fund Report published by the Ministry on Monday, a total of MVR 105 million was received as Green Tax during the month of March. The report further noted that the tax collection in February stood at MVR 91 million and in January it was at MVR 100 million. The total tax collection was at MVR 298,087,788.6 which marks a 5.7 percent increase in comparison to the same period last year.

A statistical breakdown of the numbers revealed that resorts contributed MVR 95.2 million to the Green Tax collections in March, while MVR 1.4 million was contributed by Hotels, MVR 6.1 million by Guesthouses, MVR 2.6 million by liveaboards and MVR 4097 by homestays.

Kaafu Atoll remains the biggest contributor for the month of March, with Male' contributing MVR 1.2 million and MVR 35.7 million by the other islands in the Atoll. Raa Atoll contributed MVR 10.4 million, Alif Dhaalu contributed MVR 9.6 million and Noonu Atoll contributed MVR 9.1 million.

During the month of March, a total of MVR 77.4 million was spent on 37 projects including the establishment of clean water systems and sewerage systems and shore protection projects in the Atollls.

The statistics also show that the Green Fund has a total of MVR 854.1 million by the end of March.
