Soldiers from the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) have participated in the coronation procession of King Charles III.
A total of 10 soldiers participated in the coronation procession, which included more than 4,000 members of the armed forces from the UK and across the Commonwealth, 19 bands and flag-bearers, formed into eight groups.
The Maldives was representing the Commonwealth at the procession, where 400 soldiers were from across the Commonwealth countries.
MNDF highlighted that this was the very first time they have participated in such an event.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, First Lady Fazna Ibrahim and Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid also took part in the coronation ceremony.
Kin Charles acceded to the British throne on the death of his mother, Elizabeth II on 8 September 2022. He was the longest-serving British heir apparent, having surpassed Edward VII's record of 59 years on 20 April 2011. When he became monarch at the age of 73, Charles was the oldest person to do so, the previous record holder being William IV, who was 64 when he became king in 1830.
