Supreme Court publicises regulation that enables witnesses to be detained for refusing to testify in criminal cases.
The Evidence Act that came into effect this year states that witnesses have to submit to court according to the schedules made by the court.
Court has the right to order witnesses present themselves to court for testimonies. Should a witness fail to do so, court reserves the right to detain the witness through police.
Additionally, the revision grants courts the power to cooperate with communication service providers to find out the whereabouts of witnesses who have not been able to receive their court orders.
If a witness presented at court refuses to testify, court can order the witness to give testimony. Should the witness still fail to comply, court reserves the right to sentence the witness to prison for a period no longer than 3 months.
