Bank of Maldives (BML) has cautioned its customers over scam calls made in the pretense of Public Service Media (PSM).
BML noted that they have flagged fake calls as of late, which are followed up by text messages containing suspicious hyperlinks. These hyperlinks are used by scammers to decode internet banking login details of customers.
BML has said that they have received complaints from customers who have lost money from their accounts after disclosing information and OTP requested through such calls. The bank had received two particular complaints with customers losing MVR 50,000 and MVR 75,000 respectively.
BML’s Public Relations Manager Mohamed Saeed said that customers have been duped into disclosing sensitive banking credentials, including OTPs.
Saeed has advised customers to practice caution and remain vigil towards such scams.
“Urging to exercise extreme caution regarding calls made promising big prizes or gifts. To keep in mind that OTP shall not be shared with the bank or any other authority under any circumstances,” Saeed asserted.
