Jumhooree Party (JP) has commenced the party's national congress ahead of presidential elections.

The national congress was kicked off by JP's leader Qasim Ibrahim. The congress was attended by former president and current Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed, Home Minister Imran Abdulla, and Maldives Reform Movement (MRM)'s president Faris Maumoon as well as JP's ministers and senior government officials.

The coalition began at Dharubaaruge on Friday with over 1,000 people in attendance.

JP will come to a consensus on a candidate for the elections during the national congress as well as make reforms to the party's constitution and elect elections committee members as well.

Additionally, Qasim Ibrahim will also be officially appointed JP's leader during the national congress. JP will also appoint 5 deputy leaders as well. Qasim Ibrahim's wife and Transport Minister Aishath Nahula is contesting for the position alongside 12 other members.

The two-day congress will also see other appointments as well.
