President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has sent a letter to the leaders of his coalition, seeking discussions to sustain the coalition with the ruling Maldives Democratic Party (MDP) ahead of the 2023 Presidential Election set for September.

One Online has learned that the letter addressing coalition leaders which includes Jumhooree Party (JP), Adhaalath Party (AP) and Maumoon Reform Movement (MRM) was sent out yesterday evening.

MRM Secretary General Abdul Aleem confirmed to One Online that they have received a letter by the President requesting for discussions to sustain the existing coalition.

After securing the MDP Presidential Ticket, President Solih had noted that his vision is to win a second term as President via a coalition with the other parties in the country. MDP's National Council granted President Solih the authority to form a coalition just last week.

The President stated that he possesses the formula to win the election with just a single round.

While President Solih has sent out letters to his coalition leaders, representatives for President Solih met with JP Leader Qasim Ibrahim this week. Though no details of the meeting were shared, the representatives described it as a hopeful meeting.

JP is yet to decide on where they stand at the 2023 Presidential Election. As such, they are expected to make a decision through a Council that will be elected during their National Congress this coming Friday. MRM is also yet to decide.
