President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated that the administration is considering building a new office complex to relocate certain government offices.

Speaking at the ceremony on Monday morning to open the late Umar Zahir namesake office complex in Hulhumale', President Solih noted the growing need for new spaces to run government offices. He added that the Ghaazee Building in Malé is old and that the Huravee Building was demolished due to its age. The President also noted that it was costly to operate government offices in rented spaces and that the new building would ensure some reprieve to the budget.

The President revealed that three ministries will be relocated to the newly opened office complex, which will save a reasonable amount of money as rent paid to run those offices previously, He further added that we are still in need of another such office complex.

The six-storey building features 25,000 square feet of office space on each of its four levels. The project was valued at MVR 185 million and was contracted to China's Hunan Construction Engineering Group by the Planning Ministry in December 2019. The floor space has been distributed as below to maximize usage:

Ground and First Floor: Parking Area

Second Floor: Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services

Third Floor: Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation

Fourth Floor: American Embassy

Fifth Floor: Ministry of Higher Education

Sixth Floor: Small meeting rooms, seminar room and terrace

So far, the Gender Ministry has completed shifter their works to the building while the remaining ministries are working on the move.
