Maldivian is set to temporarily discontinue night flights to Hanimadhoo International Airport to facilitate the development project of the airport.
A press release issued by the airline noted that in order to facilitate the development project, all flights from 8:00pm to 8:00am will be temporarily discontinued to Hanimaadhoo International Airport. The change is set to come into effect starting February 1st.
With this change, flights from Hanimaadhoo International Airport to Trivandrum will also be discontinued starting February 1st.
Apologizing for any inconvenience this may cause, Maldivian stated that they will make the necessary arrangements through their call center for passengers who had booked tickets beyond February 1st.
The airport development project kicked off on January 18th, and was inaugurated by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and India's Minister of External Affairs is Subrahmanyam Jaishankr as well as KS Reddy, Vice President of JMC.
The project is carried out under the Line of Credit agreement that was signed between the government and Exit Bank of India. The project will see the development of a 2.46km runway, and a passenger terminal with the capacity to service 1.3 million tourists annually.
Economic Ministry said that Hanimaadhoo Airport would provide services with A230 Airbus and Boeing 737 aircrafts once completed. The ministry added that the airport would have the capacity for direct flights from Middle East, South and South East Asia as well as North Africa.
The project is one of the biggest projects of the current government.
