WAMCO takes over waste management in Male' City streets, parks, and public spaces once again following complaints from the public.
WAMCO signed an agreement on 26 December 2019 with Male' City Council to manage waste and clean Male' City streets, parks, and public spaces. City Council this month decided not to renew the agreement and WAMCO ceased waste management operations in Male' City except managing household waste.
City Council overtook waste management and maintenance of Male' Street public spaces last Sunday. However, multiple people have raised concerns on social media about the waste management operations by City Council.
WAMCO resumed waste management operations on Friday in Male' City public spaces.
Environment Ministry's State Minister Ali Solih told the media on Friday that WAMCO has resumed waste management in Male' City under the directive of Environment Minister Aminath Shauna.
"WAMCO has started a special operation to manage waste in Male' City. It is more important to cater to the wellbeing of the public than someone's ego," Ali Solih said.
WAMCO issued a statement on Friday stating that they were receiving multiple complaints from the public about the waste in Male' City.
"We have resumed our operations under the directive from Environment Ministry to manage waste and maintain cleanliness in public spaces in Male' City," the statement read.
WAMCO also appealed to their registered customers not to dispose household waste onto the streets.
