Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid has said the next term should be given to a leader who would allow differences in opinions.
Shahid made the comments while speaking at the 'Jagaha Jalsa' to kick off President Solih's campaign for the MDP primary on Thursday night. He stated that the previous government did not allow room for opposition.
Shahid also spoke about the use of MNDF to physically remove sitting members from the parliament floor during former president Yameen's term. He said the previous administration had no respect for judicial institutions.
"We want a peaceful rule in the Maldives. A presidency that respects the laws in the Maldives. A presidency that allows differences in opinions. We want a presidency that respects judicial institutions," Shahid said.
Shahid further said that he would support President Solih for a second term, stating that President Solih has worked towards building a generation during his term in office.
Shahid also spoke about the free degree programme and the opportunities provided for students during President Solih's term.
