Maldives Reform Movement (MRM) has requested Attorney General's Office (AGO) to revise the appointment of members to Judicial Service Commission (JSC).
MRM's legal counsel Aminath Rifqa spoke about MRM's appeal at a press conference held on Thursday.
Rifqa said MRM requested to include three retired judges in JSC to ensure there is no conflict of interest in JSC when ruling on matters that involve judges.
MRM further requested to include the Attorney General in JSC as well, and advised against the inclusion of parliament speaker, and member appointed by the speaker and CSC's president in JSC.
MRM also said public members, if included in JSC, should include a male and a female member with 15 years of experience. MRM said the members must not have signed to a political party and must not have worked in the political field in the past 3 years.
MRM added that the public members should be interviewed by an independent commission prior to their appointment.
MRM also added that a lawyer who has passed the BAR exams with 15 years of experience should be included in JSC.
Additionally, MRM stated that JSC members should have two 7-year terms.
