Former Foreign Minister and Vice President of Maldives National Party (MNP), Dunya Maumoon has been summoned to the Anti-Corruption Commission over the Maldives Marketing & PR Company (MMPRC) Corruption Case.
Dunya was summoned to the Commission at 11:00am this morning, which was confirmed to One Online by her.
She further highlighted that this marks the first time that she has been summoned to the commission regarding the case.
According to the summon, the former minister was being summoned to the commission for the alleged involvement in the MMPRC Corruption from 2014 to 2015, during her tenure as the Foreign Minister. It is alleged that Dunya was one of the beneficiaries of the embezzled funds from MMPRC, after the illegal lease of islands and lagoons for tourism purposes.
The Asset Recovery Committee formed by the President had previously submitted a list of beneficiaries to the joint committee formed to investigate the case by the Parliamentary Committee on Judiciary, as well as the Committee on National Security Services.
The alleged list was also leaked, which incriminated 281 people as being part of it, including several former and current government officials and lawmakers.
According to the list, Dunya had received USD 13,000 which totals up to MVR 200,000.
Dunya had however refuted the allegations, stating that she has never been part of the corruption and that she never received any such funds.
