India's Afcons Infrastructure, who is developing the Thilamale' Bridge under the Greater Male' Connectivity Project has appealed a fine over the company regarding the collapse of a platform that was being used to construct the bridge.

Afcons was fined with MVR 64 million for the damages caused to Villimale' reef, after the platform ran aground the Villimale' reef.

The platform had run aground on August 16th, around 2:45 am. After extensive damage, the platform was removed on August 27th, following which the EPA began an assessment of damages survey during the month of September, and decided to fine the company with MVR 64 million for the extensive damage.

Afcons was ordered to pay the fine within 30 days including government holidays on November 13th. While the period comes to a close tomorrow, they have submitted an appeal of the fine to the Ministry of Environment.

An official at the Ministry of Environment revealed to One Online today that the company had submitted the appeal to the Ministry, noting that once the due process is completed all the necessary information will be shared. One Online has also learned that the appeal was submitted on Sunday.
